A Case Report of Primary Angiitis of the Central Nervous System

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Primary angiitis of the central nervous system (PACNS) is an inflammatory vasculitis with very low frequency and prevalence. It is not clear why the inflammatory process of this disease is limited to cerebrovascular disease without systemic manifestations. A case of primary angiitis of the central nervous system with cerebrovascular manifestations is reported here.  C...

An illustrative case of primary angiitis of the central nervous system

Primary angiitis of the central nervous system is a rare idiopathic vasculitis affecting small- and medium-sized vessels, isolated to the brain, leptomeninges and spinal cord. We report a case of biopsy-proven primary angiitis of the central nervous system, displaying some atypical features. This case highlights several key diagnostic and management issues of the disorder as well as its potenti...

Serial magnet resonance angiography in patients with vasculitis and vasculitis-like angiopathy of the central nervous system.

The purpose of the study was to examine the value of the non-invasive magnet resonance angiography (MRA) in the follow-up of cerebral vasculitis (CV) and vasculitis-like angiopathy. We performed follow-up MRA (TOF 3D), MRI and transcranial doppler ultrasound (TCD) in the patients with isolated angiitis of the CNS (2/6), Crohn-disease-associated CV (1/6), and reversible arterial vasoconstriction...

Primary angiitis of the central nervous system: A rare and reversible cause of childhood stroke

Childhood primary angiitis of the central nervous system (cPACNS) is a rare and a potentially fatal cause of childhood stroke. The disease poses a diagnostic dilemma for the clinicians due to overlapping and varied clinical manifestations such as headache, focal acute neurological deficits, cognitive impairment, or encephalopathy. We report a young boy who presented with low-grade fever and hea...

Primary angiitis of the central nervous system: a study of histopathological patterns and review of the literature.

Primary angiitis of the central nervous system (PACNS) is a rare form of vasculitis of unknown aetiology. Multifaceted clinical manifestations, non-specific MRI findings, a broad range of differential diagnoses and diverse pathological appearances prove to be a diagnostic challenge. However, a prompt diagnosis and aggressive treatment are crucial to avoid permanent damage. Hence, we present the...
